Tuesday, November 3rd - Kicking Myself!

Well, here we are, three days till home and now things are up in the air.  Layton had lab work last night and his creatine came back at .8 and his BUN is 30.  I was afraid this may happen because Saturday at about midnight he woke up and his tummy hurt - he burped a few times and I thought he was going to throw-up.  I turned his feeds down to 1/2 of normal hoping to relieve some of the nauseous feeling.  Well, I dried him out.  I should have called the doctor.  Lesson learned!  He felt fine the next morning, must have been something he ate.

The doctors said not to get too upset because his creatine was also .7 on Oct. 29th.  I thought it was .5 - nobody told me ANY DIFFERENT.  So we are giving Layton extra hydration today in hopes that his numbers will pop back to normal.  Layton’s normal creatine runs at .5 and about 15 for his BUN.

The doctor is making the call to the University of Minnesota today to make all arrangements for Layton’s care back home.  We are hoping this is going to work out, but sometimes when you get two hospitals caring for the same patient you can run into problems.  We hope the U of M is more than happy to work cooperatively with Lucile Packard.   We can expect blood draws at least once a week, but more than likely twice a week for the first few weeks back home.
