Well, sure enough, the day after we get out of the hospital Layton vomits and his NG tube comes out. We met with the doctor this afternoon to discuss possibilities of what was going on. She was very surprised to see us since we were just in the day hospital for labs and a checkup and he looked great. She thought the NG tube must have migrated up his esophagus causing irritation, which may have made him vomit.
While waiting at the hospital to have it replaced he was happy as could be, singing songs and talking like nothing was wrong. I was glad that he was not sick. It definitely seemed NG related. It was horrible telling him they had to put his NG back in his nose. NOT HAPPY AT ALL! Well, they got it in and we are back at the RMH just in time for bed. I really pray this does not happen often.
So today was crazy. We need to get into a routine. Everything makes me very nervous right now. Layton takes approximately seven medications daily at 8 am and 8 pm. We also mix up a special batch of formula and water which runs 24/7 on his feeding pump. We need to clean his catheter site once a day and flush his pic line twice a day, plus also change the caps on the pic line twice a week. I am anxious to get some time to speak with the moms I know out here and see how they have arranged things to make it easier, but it has been so crazy that we have had only brief conversations here and there.
I’m lucky that Lee doesn’t get nervous at these times. He is able to talk me out of my panic attacks and is very willing to help out and do whatever he can. I’m sure things will get better. I just need to take one day at a time and remember we are here to get Layton healthy so we can come home.
